Meet Luna Bay, another one of our latest additions to the Rose Culinary portfolio.

Company: www.lunabaybooch.com

Founders: Bridget Connelly & Claire Ridge

HQ: Chicago, IL

Luna Bay makes a hard kombucha drink (6% alcohol) made from Yerba Mate tea, and fresh fruits and herbs sourced from local farmers and suppliers.

Founded in 2018, Bridget & Claire started the company in Chicago and quickly scaled coast-to-coast in the US.

All of their products are gluten-free, low in sugar, vegan, and naturally fermented to 6% alcohol by volume.

Alcohol plays a central role in almost all human cultures since Neolithic times (4000 BC), and the earliest recorded use of alcohol has been for social activities in both good times and bad times.

While the act of drinking has not changed, the substance of choice has, such as replacing beer with a hard seltzer.

Just like food, we’re seeing people want better-for-you liquor, cocktails, wine, and beer. A testament to this according to Brewers Association, overall U.S. beer volume sales were down 3% in 2020, and craft brewer volume sales declined 9%, for the 5th consecutive year.

National Beer Sales & Production Data from 2020 — Brewers Association

With beer sales on the decline, Nielsen data shows that hard kombucha was the #1 hard alternative in total off-premise dollar sales with $582 million in 2020.

Consumers are moving away from the traditional brands that don’t disclose ingredients and lack transparency, in favor of brands that will make them feel better long term and the morning after.

We believe hard kombucha will continue to take market share away from beer and craft beer, and Luna Bay is a pure-play in this category that has quickly become one of the leading brands in several national retailers.
